Description General information: Hitachi energy is a global leader in technology, and the largest supplier of transformers in the world. Hitachi Energy has an opening for the position of Research Intern in the field of Machine Learning and time series analysis. The hired intern will work under the supervision of Research Scientist(s) in the North Ameri-ca Hitachi Energy Research center (Montreal, Canada). Internship duration: Flexible (Suggested: 4 months) Start date: Flexible (Suggested: June 5th 2023) Work mode: Hybrid and open for fully remote Paid Internship Responsibilities: Perform literature survey to explore state-of-the-art AI/ML methodologies for time series analysis and forecasting. Apply existing methodologies and develop new models for time series analysis and prediction targeted to power grids. Develop pipelines and prepare codebase in python. Prepare technical reports, present accomplished work during the internship, and/or publish in peer-reviewed conferences. Your background: ************Minimum qualification************ Ph.D. students/candidates or senior-year Master's students in Electrical Engineering, Computer Sci-ence/Engineering, Applied Mathematics/ Statistics, or similar field. In-depth understanding of AI/ML methodologies, such as: classical and deep learning based super-vised/unsupervised classification/regression and associated time series models. Prior experience in developing machine learning based solutions for academic or industrial problems. Coding experience in Python and relevant ML libraries (e.g. Tensorflow/Pytorch, Keras, Numpy, Scipy, SkLearn). ************Preferred qualification************ Understanding of AI/ML methodologies in one or more of the following fields: time series classification, forecasting, generalized learning, meta learning, probabilistic machine learning. Graduate-level knowledge of probability, statistical methods, or optimization. Prior experience of working in groups. Ability to do critical and innovative thinking. Ability to take lead in realizing ideas. Excellent communication skills (both written and spoken). Prior experience in technology screening through literature survey. Prior experience in writing technical articles/reports. Familiarity with power grid automation
